Year 6 (Arabian)

The Year 6 children at Cambridge International School are known as Arabian Class. They are a group of boys and girls, some from the Cambridge area as well as from a variety of international countries. They are excited and active learners, in their final year before joining the Seniors at the Temple. They take their role as the eldest students in the school very seriously, and fill a numbers of leadership roles such as Play Leaders, monitoring the iPads and leading the Student Council.

Each school day is packed with hands on lessons and activities that combine to foster a love of learning that will carry on for a lifetime. Arabian class starts their day at 9am. Each week we have at least 4 maths and literacy lessons and two afternoons focused on our current topic, which includes lessons in geography, science and history. Our literacy focuses range from learning narrative styles such as myths and legends, to non-fiction writing such as explanations, balanced arguments and instructions. In maths, we cover a range of topics, from algebra to measurement. On Fridays, year 6 use their technical skills (and their ability to work with limited supplies) with a STEM session. There is a new challenge each week focused on science, technology, engineering or maths.

Twice a week there is a Spanish lesson taught by a native speaker. Sport also takes place twice weekly. Year 6 often participate in Sports fixtures against other local state and independent schools. Sports we compete in include netball, tag rugby, football and hockey. Once a week there is a music lesson with a qualified music teacher where Arabian sing, rehearse with their own musical instruments and collaborate on original compositions. The children also participate in the Junior School Choir. Additionally, twice a week Arabian students have Mother Tongue lessons, where the focus is on maintaining their mother tongues. We currently provide12 different languages.

In addition to this there is at least one trip or exciting visitor each term, to support our topic learning. Previous trips have included going to Cambridge American War Cemetery, Duxford Imperial War Museum, Green Britain Centre and the Cambridge Science Centre.

The Year 6 Teacher is Miss Kate Pauley. She is always happy to show you Arabian class in action and introduce you to the enthusiastic and focused Year 6’s. Please contact our Admissions Department on 01223 778290 if you would like to arrange a visit.
