The Year 4 children at Cambridge International School are split into two classes Aegean and Andaman. Andaman Class are a group of boys and girls some from the Cambridge area as well as from a variety of international countries. They are building on from the skills, knowledge and understanding they have learnt previously.
Andaman class work very closely with their sister class, Aegean, and often have English lessons together. The literacy lessons focus on a range of fiction and non-fiction styles from Mr Men stories to explanation texts on materials to persuasive writing on a charity. The five Maths lessons that happen throughout the week are set according to ability in year 4. This is constantly monitored and changes on a regular basis. There is a topic focus each half term where history, science, art and geography are taught.
There are many exciting trips throughout the year. These are usually related to the topic focus. Previously we have been to Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge Mosque, Botanical Gardens and we have taken party in a Walking Tour of Cambridge. We have also been lucky enough to have fantastic visitors into school such as HackLab and Jungle Jo.
Twice a week there is a Spanish lesson taught by a native speaker. Sport also takes place twice weekly. Once a week there is a music lesson with a qualified music teacher where Andaman class sing, rehearse with their own musical instruments and collaborate on original compositions. The children also participate in the Junior School Choir every Friday. Additionally, twice a week Andaman students have Mother Tongue lessons, where the focus is on maintaining their mother tongues. We currently have 4 different languages taught in Andaman Class.
