Spanish

We teach Spanish enthusiastically to IGCSE. We extend gifted pupils and encourage them to take exams early. We have a lively Spanish department including several native speakers and our students have the opportunity to work in small focused groups on spoken Spanish. This has had a dramatic and excellent impact on the quantity and quality of spoken Spanish particularly at the top end of the school. We embrace old and new technologies in the teaching of Spanish and use dynamic kinaesthetic methods in our classrooms.

We have frequent International/Language days when we encourage Hispanophone parents to come in. We have made sugar skulls for the Mexican Day of the Dead and danced the Flamenco. We seek to engage the children through less conventional means. We have made Paella and constructed a Tapas Bar featuring membrillo, manchego, jamon serrano, aceitunas and non-alcoholic sangria.

Pupils are given the opportunity to travel abroad. This year a large group of students spent time at one of our partner schools in Spain and had a fantastic time. They spent time in lessons perfecting their Spanish and enjoyed an array of outdoor activities. We hope to extend our links with our partner schools in Spain and to welcome Spanish students here to CIS. Please see photos below.

Spanish is a dynamic and positive element within the school with excellent results at public examination and massive commitment from both pupils and teachers.  For updated news and homework, please visit the Languages website: cislanguages.com
