Music

Students in Years 7 and 8 attend weekly music lessons where they can learn to play a variety of styles on classroom instruments, sing, and play their own instruments. There are opportunities to perform and to explore theoretical and cultural aspects of music. Children are supported to progress whatever their starting point – from completely new to highly proficient.

Students can opt for a weekly double lesson of music as an elective for half of the year, focusing on ensemble performing skills with an additional focus on composition and song-writing techniques in Year 9.

Students reaching the required level (including Grade 4 ABRSM (or equivalent standard) on their instrument) can opt to study Music GCSE in Years 10 and 11.
